Our Trip To Sierra Leone
Last summer we took a trip to Sierra Leone, West Africa so the kids could meet their uncles, aunts and cousins who live there. We travelled to remote villages, rode motorcycles, jumped rope, swam in the ocean, played soccer, danced to live music, learned to play djembe drum, and hiked through the bush. We also had a chance to see the social work that my husband Ali does through his organization Salone Rising.
Our lives begin in silence, move to a rhythm, journey along a melody, connect to others in harmony, then return again to silence. Traveling the globe is one of the sure ways we can be reminded of our humanity and our connection to others. Traveling allows us to see through each other eyes and remember that we are all the same.
This was a life-changing, eye-opening experience for our family. We are determined to spend more time there, and to create opportunities for all of us to travel to new places in the coming years.
We are finding our musical lives. Glad you’re along for the ride 🙂
